EXCLUSIVE: IRS to promote little-known Sept. 11 victim tax break after worker alerts Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand

WASHINGTON — The IRS will publicize little-known tax breaks for 9/11 victims and their families after an ailing recovery worker alerted Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.

Disability income that results from a terror attack is not taxable, and the estates of those who die in attacks are due big refunds: $10,000 or all the taxes paid during the last three years of the victim’s life, whichever is higher.
